Samuel Tessier was born in 1986 in Les Sables d’Olonne (France). Tessier started studying saxophone at the age of thirteen. When he was eighteen, he moved to Angers to study Classical Saxophone and Musicology. He graduated with a bachelor in History of Music and a “Diplôme d’Etudes Musicales à l’unanimité avec les félicitations du jury” in 2008. In 2004, Tessier received the second prize in the “Concours International de Saxophone de Nantes”, and won in 2007 the first prize in the “Concours Artistique d’Epinal”. In 2009 he created a concerto for saxophone and a band, written by the French composer Sébastien Rabiller. Tessier furthered his studies in Besançon (graduated in 2010 with a “Diplôme de Concert à l’unanimité”), and then in Paris where he decided to switch to Jazz. He was under the tutelage of famous jazz players in Paris such as Sylvain Beuf, Sébastien Jarousse, David Prez, and studied composition and arrangement with Eric Schultz and Laurent Coq. Tessier graduated in Jazz in 2012 with the “Diplôme d’Etudes Musicales mention très bien”. He set up the Samuel Tessier quartet and was involved in big bands. He played in numerous prestigious Jazz venues in Paris (Sunset/Sunside, Espace B, L’Entrepôt, L’Âge d’Or). In 2013, Samuel Tessier moved to Glasgow (United Kingdom) to study at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He is now a student in the Jazz Department under the tutelage of the international saxophonist Tommy Smith.
